Immerse yourself in a garden oasis that attracts a variety of bird species and learn how to create your own bird-friendly habitat.
Please join us for a 30-45 minute presentation and discussion with host Bob Barrett, lifelong birder and gardener, and his wife, Joy, at their backyard bird oasis.* The session will focus on Bob's personal experience with how native flower and perennial grass plantings benefit the wild birds and butterflies that live just beyond your doorstep. The discussion will explore ideas on how you can start to transform your yard into your "happy place," in harmony with nature to attract more birds and bring nature to your home. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite piece of birding and/or gardening literature and to share the captivating birding moments you've experienced.
After the discussion, join us for a bird watching stroll through the backyard and woods line to search for that one bird from your birding-life list.
Get practical ideas you can apply in your own yard:
- learn about locally native plants - trees, shrubs, perennials flowers & grasses, annual vines, etc.
- see a Certified Wildlife Habitat¹ and learn how to create your own
- learn how to implement a water feature in your yard without the hassle of maintaining a 6000 gallon Koi pond
- see how garden design and strategic building inspired by nature can impact the actual number of unique wild bird species and other fauna in your garden space, regardless of whether you are on 10 acres of land, 1/2 an acre, or in a small apartment with a 10x10 ft patio
Come prepared with your own binoculars and feel free to bring your favorite cup of coffee or tea and we will have some to top you off.
