Ron Richael, of Pottstown, has been the proprietor of an urban butterfly habitat for the past 30 years. A butterfly photographer and educator, Richael offers expertise on how to grow butterfly attracting plants. His 5,000 square foot property hosts 1,200 plants attractive to multiple species of butterflies. In addition to his most recent book, Pottstown Butterflies, Richael has hosted 5 TV shows of the same name, and authored Attracting Butterflies - A Handbook for Butterfly Gardening, in 2010.
Richael has become somewhat of a local celebrity in Mercer and neighboring counties, having been featured in various local news articles, outdoor festivals, and garden club events. Originally from Meadville, PA, Richael credits an elementary school teacher for fostering his interest in butterflies when he was 8 years old. Since then, in addition to pursuing his passion for these majestic flying insects, Richael has amassed an eclectic professional resume, including a stint as a social worker in Montgomery County from which he retired. He now spends his time photographing, nurturing, and educating people about butterflies. He lives with his lovely wife, Carol, and their cat, Kenzi.
